“To defend oneself against a fear is simply to insure that one will, one day, be conquered by it; fears must be faced” - James Baldwin

Celebrate the centennial of James Baldwin’s birth and join a discussion of Go Tell It on the Mountain.

With the novel Go Tell It on the Mountain (1953), a distillation of his own experiences as a preacher’s son in 1930s Harlem, and the essay collection Notes of a Native Son (1955), James Baldwin established himself as a prophetic voice of his era.

Books are available at the Bedford Hills Library, ready for check out.

Free to Read, is an ongoing book discussion series presented by Antioch Baptist Church and the Bedford Hills Free Library, launched in response to increased efforts to target or restrict access to books in libraries and schools.

Our shared purpose is to better understand complex issues, explore our personal response to challenged and banned books, develop empathy for others, and discover our own way to protect everyone's freedom to read.
