Tech Team – assist patrons to use functions on tech devices.
Book Buddies – help younger students practice reading; listen to them read aloud and offer encouragement.
Homework Helpers – meet one-on-one with younger students to review and help them with homework assignments.
Programs & Events – assist with preparation and hosting of Summer Reading events, craft workshops, or special events.
Storytelling Support – learn how to select stories and songs and assist with Storytimes.
Game Leader – assist with family games on Saturdays and during school breaks. Explain the rules and offer tips to players.
Collections – help to keep books, media, and other materials organized at the library and other venues; shelve books; make recommendations to peers.
Outreach – Encourage your friends to participate in library programs; assist with library card sign-up; create fundraising ideas to attract support for the library.
Activities
- Attend an orientation session to learn about the Library, specific job assignments and schedules, and other responsibilities.
- Commit to a total minimum of 20 hours.
- Work schedules will vary depending upon the position.
- Learn from a librarian or staff mentor.
- Share learning experiences with team members and offer feedback to the library.
Rewards
Upon completion of the program, Teen Team leaders receive:
- Credit for community service hours
- Public recognition
- A certificate of completion
- Letter of recommendation suitable for college or job applications.
Eligibility
- Must be interested in libraries, reading, child development, social media, research, or arts; offer strong communication and administrative skills; be able to successfully complete a project or goals.
- While most suitable for High School students, ninth grade students at least 14 years old will also be considered.
- To receive community service credit, teens must complete minimum requirements.
